How to submit a sitemap for Yahoo!

We nowadays seem to be focused on more n more Google & seem to neglect Yahoo while optimising the Blog/Website. But Google is the favorite as the major part of online traffic goes through Google and Yahoo shares like only 1/4th of it. But we should also work on Yahoo as a good place in Yahoo’s rankings can bring quite a number of visitors.

Now, How to Get Listed In Yahoo Index

Yahoo is somehow neglected while optimising the blog/site by majority of webmasters. Google seems to be the favourite of many, for searching as well as optimising their sites.The reason – the major part of online traffic goes through Google and Yahoo shares only 1/4th of it.

Does that mean that Yahoo be neglected? Not at all. infact Yahoo! can bring you as many visitors as Google, provided you have a strong presence in their index.

Now, how do you make it to Yahoo’s index? 3 ways.

- Get someone to link to you.
- Write comments on other blogs and point the link to your blog.
- Submit a sitemap to Yahoo! But Yahoo accepts the text format sitemap unlike Google which accepts the standard xml format sitemap. Check out this site, it offers you a free sitemap in all the four formats. XML,TXT,HTML and ROR.
Now since universal sitemap recognition standard is accepted Google,Yahoo and MSN you just to add “Sitemap: your complete url here” to your robots.txt file. Then just go to http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/Add a site, then click on the verification button. You can then download a verification key html file – which you will need to upload to the root directory of your webserver. Then you can return to Site Explorer and tell Yahoo to start authentication. This will take up to 24 hours. At the same time you can also add your sitemap by clicking on the manage button and then adding the sitemap as a feed.
